=====PsL Monthly Additions Disks
The programs in this section are new small programs of different types.
Disks of new small programs specific to Windows, to programming, and to Games
are in those sections.
-----September 1993 Additions Disk #1
Column Printer 2.0 [COLPRTR]
Printer Utility
Thomas M. Roddy; $10
prints newspaper style columns of text. It prints up to three columns
printers. Included is a word wrap program which can reformat text files
into specific line widths.
ColorDOS. v1.52 [COLRDOS]
DOS Utility
KroTek Electronics; $11
is a 1k TSR that changes text colors when you change drives. It also
displays each directory in your DOS prompt path a different color.
Comic 1.0 [COMIC]
Quote Generator
John Owen; $7
displays a different funny remark each day. Put it in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
to start each morning with a grin. <COMIC.PCX>
ComPack 4.5 [COMPACK]
Archive Utility
Prominence Computer Services; $25-$40
saves disk space by compressing EXE and COM files while still leaving
them executable. It produces faster and smaller EXE and COM files than
EXEPACK, LZEXE, and PKLITE. This program has been around a while in
Italy, but has just made it to PsL in the U.S.
CronTab 2.21 [CRONTAB]
System Control
Thomas G. Harold; $0
runs programs based on the date. Execution can be periodic such as
daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly with or without a specified offset
such as the third day of the month. Execution can also be day-specific
such as every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or on the 15th of each month.
Crypt [CRYPT]
File Encryption
$0
is a very quick and easy file encryption program. You simply enter
CRYPT SOMEKEY <FILE1 >FILE2
to either encrypt or decrypt a file. "SOMEKEY" is whatever key or
password you want to use. "FILE1" is the name of the file to
encrypt/decrypt and "FILE2" is the name of the output file. C source code
is included.
DOS Quiz Manager 1.23 [DQM]
Education
Steve Mount; $10
allows you to customize a DOS quiz to test students or job applicants on
their knowledge of DOS. Test on DOS 5 specifically or ask advanced DOS
questions. It also has password security, and the ability to save and
print test resutlts.
GrowP 2.0 [GROWP]
TSR Utility
Tessler's Nifty Tools; $0
is a 2k TSR which visually indicates in the DOS prompt how many copies
of COMMAND.COM are invoked in the current chain. It is easy to shell to
DOS from a program and later forget that you are shelled. With GrowP,
you won't forget.
Star Program [STARS]
Video: Graphics
Data Management; $10
is a graphic display program similar to Windows' star field screen
saver.

Cache Test 5.0a [CACHTST]
System Testing

tests the effectiveness of your disk caching software. It checks
sequential write and read, random write and read, random update, and DOS
directory services times.
Delimit 1.0 [DELIMIT]
File Conversion
Roy G Grosbach; $15
converts fixed format files into DELIMITed files, that databases and
spreadsheets can read quickly. The program filters the file, choosing
selected fields, eliminating headers from reports, or selecting only
summary lines from reports or you can also choose selected fields from
fixed-format files easily.

is a DOS shell that allows you to easily move around directories and see
what is in them. From the file lists, the following functions are
allowed: execute, view (ASCII/Hex), copy, delete, hide, move, rename,

remaining, along with a graph of the same.

describes common forms of typing-related injuries, preventative
measures, and what to do if you do injure yourself in this way. Includes
information on alternative keyboards, furniture, and software that can
help.
ScrnCap. [SCRNCAP]
Video Capture
V-Soft; $20
is a 9k TSR which captures all or part of text screens to a printer or
to a text file.
TurboBat 3.16 and TurboTXT 1.11 [TRBOBAT]
Foley Hi-Tech Systems, ASP; $19
allows you to compile regular DOS batch files into COM programs.
TurboTXT 1.11 has been added which allows you to convert text files into
self-displaying COM files.
Unp 3.1 [UNP]
Archive Utility

allows you to expand executable (COM and EXE) files which have been
compressed with PKZip, LZEXE, et al.
Update 1.1 [UPDATE]
File Updating
John Lindinger; $0
makes it easy to update files on a hard disk. Update searches a
specified path for a file matching the filespec. It compares its file
date to the new one to see if the one that was found needs to be
updated.
Universal Vocabulary Drill 1.0 [UVDRILL]
Languages
Mike Nichols; $15
can be used to drill on vocabulary words (for SAT, ACT, etc.) as well as
on foreign languages. Sample files in English, German and Spanish are
provided.

compresses all the files in the current directory into an ARJ file.
Requires ARJ.EXE (disk #3122) C++ source code include.
ARJWalk. [ARJWALK]
Archiving

goes from directory to directory looking for things to "ARJ" enabling
you to free up disk space fast without having to delete files. C++
source included.
ChkSys v1.0 [CHKSYS]
Batch File Utilities

sets errorlevel to indicate the presence of specified system elements:
ANSI, Append, Assign, Doskey, Files setting, Graftabl, Himem, Keyb,

DiaChess 1.0 [DIACHES]
Games: Chess

allows you to record and print complete chess games with a diagram for
every move. It's a valuable teaching and study tool for serious players
and ideal for printing a permanent record of tournament games.
DOS 6 Quiz [DOS6QIZ]

Hard Disk Utilities

This is useful if you are working on a strange system or if CMOS gets

is an address book and telephone dialer. It can be installed as a 5K TSR
or be run from the command line. You can import/export files, supports
international dialing and address formats. and has the ability to print
pocket sized personal directory.

Hex Editor

is a full screen editor for binary/hex or text files.
Rainbow. 1.0 [RAINBOW]
Editor Utility
David A. Hattel; $29.95
is a utility that will colorize your editor. It is meant to highlight
reserved words and make your comments stand out in different colors. You
can even have flashing text for those comments that must not be missed.
TT2BMP [TT2BMP]
Printing Utility
Alexander Walter; $20
is a DOS-based program to convert TrueType fonts to LaserJet bitmap
fonts so older DOS-based programs can still use the latest printer
fonts. Requires a graphics display and a print file generated by a
Windows 3.1 application using TrueType fonts.

Ex 1.22 [EX] (J. Andrzej Wrotniak; $30) is a scientific calculator which
supports logs, variables, and complex expressions. Other features
include plotting, integration, differentiation, summation, and root

EZView 5.1 [EZVIEW] (Charles Hill; $20) is a file viewing utility.
Features include changing drives and directories, files up to 16MB,
hex/text, text search, view contents of archives.
Tommy's Insults [INSULT] (Tommy's Toys; $5) generates random insults.
[RandXX] 2.0 (Chuck Steenburgh ASP; $20-$30) is a random errorlevel
generator for testing batch files or for creating random (temporary)
file names.
[Reformat] 1.2 (Timothy C. Barmann; $10) will reformat the lines in a
text file to any specified length.
[Sift] 1.0 (Tay-Jee Software, ASP) is a DOS filter than improves on
MORE, FIND and SORT.
Golf Score Board [SGOLF] (Bob Howe; $0) keeps track of golf scores for
one or more players. It calculates handicaps and averages at different
courses. It shows your best and worst games, your problem holes, and
your best and worst scores on each course.
[Writex] 2.5 (Chuck Steenburgh ASP; $20-$30) lets you have control over
the positioning and color of text messages in batch files.
[Zerofile] (P. Below; 0$) searches a directory for files of zero length
so that you can delete them if you wish.

[Born] is a ROL version of the song from Columbia Pictures' "Born Free"
by John Barry. Sound card required.
[Cats] contains several versions of the popular song "Cat's in the
Cradle" by Harry and Sandy Chapin.
Patriotic [PATRIOT] is a collection of 10 patriotic song files in .CM1
format. Songs include Star Spangled Banner, Dixie, La Marseillaise,
Grand Old Flag, Battle Hymn of the Republic and more.
[Seattle] (Barry Robinson; $0) is a CMF file that plays the theme song
for the 60's TV show "Here Comes The Brides".
Yesterday [YESTRDY] is the Lennon/McCartney song in ROL & CMF format.

total expected tax liability for the year.
(CM-02) PortaCall 2.0 [PCALL] calls you whenever a new message is on
your answering machine. Modem required.
(CM-02) [Otto] 1.5 ASP ($30) lets you automate communications. New: an
option for running scripts within batch files, new hot key capability
and a print screen function.
(GA-05) TakeNote 6.5 [TAKENOT] is a study tool for chess.
(GA-12) A Clues Solution 2.0 [ACLUSL] combines the strategies of Wheel
of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Trivial Pursuit.
(MS-10) Complete Martial Artist 2.0 [CMA] (Dave Smith; $0) is a thorough

(P1-01) LabelMate 1.6 [LBLMATE] lets you add a Print Shop graphic to a
label with up to five lines of text.
(P2-02) [LJVGA] 2.0 ($10-$50) is a 6.5K TSR that allows you to print any
VGA or Super VGA screen to an HP LaserJet or compatible printer.
(PG-04) [EMSIF] 2.42 (James W. Birdsall; $5) is an interface to most
common EMS functions.
(U1-01) [DirX] 1.10 searches for executable files that have been
compressed by AXE, DIET, EXEPACK, ICE, LEXEM, LZEXE, PKLITE, SCRNCH,
SHRINK and TINYPROG.
(U1-01) [DirXC] 1.10 provides a simple means of showing which files have
and have not been compressed with an executable file compressor.

(U2-03) [EXC] 2.6 is a simple but powerful script processor for
automating DOS applications.
(U2-04) Resq 3.2 [RESQ32] (Mike Yarus; $10) is a utility which allows
recovery of text otherwise lost in the computer. NEW: searches XMS and
EMS memory as well as low RAM.
(U2-05) [HiVIDEO] 2.03 (ASP) expands DOS RAM by 96k.

(U2-07) [ConCopy] 1.50 captures to a disk file all the text going to the
screen.
(U2-03) Playback 2.3 [PLAYBAC] ($35) ASP captures keystrokes and lets
you play them back in a variety of ways.
